FYT Drama School offers classes year-round for students age 3 through 12th grade. From preschool to advanced acting classes, there are numerous changes to "get into the act" and develop creative spirits and imaginations. If you would like to tell great stories, meet new people, develop confidence, learn how to present yourself, discover what it would be like to act on stage or just have fun, then FYT Drama School is the place for you.
Classes are taught by FYT's professional artists who are responsible for creating the Signature Series. With small classes and one-on-one coaching, the faculty takes great pride in nurturing creative spirits while teaching the practical skills of performing on stage.
FYT Education Manager, Sam Richardson teaches Drama School classes with the belief that everyone can act, everyone can play. He feels, "We are born with both of these inside of us, we just need help to bring these out. Through the use of games, activities, exercises and techniques I feel anyone can be an original." Sam's philosphy follows Viola Spolin's statement, “Everyone can act. Everyone can improvise. Anyone who wishes to can play in the theater and learn to become 'stageworthy.'" Celebrations are Sam's favorite part of teaching Drama School. It's a time for family and friends to see what the students have been doing in class, bringing laughter and smiles to their faces. Sam says, "I love seeing the smiles, laughter and hugs the students get from their families and friends. Seeing all this love and support is truly amazing."
Drama School Instructor, Andrea Anthony
FYT Resident Artist, Andrea Anthony's teaching philosophy focuses on getting students to ask questions and explore new things, both within themselves and others. She is inspired by Bette Davis' words, "Without wonder and insight, acting is just a trade. With it, it becomes creation." Andrea enjoys seeing her Drama School students grow and explore new dimensions of themselves while helping them do things they never thought they could.
Drama School Instructor, Deirdre Baker
Inspired by the unique creativity of her Drama School students FYT Resident Artist, Deirdre Baker, says, "I love to embrace the free spirit of those who are willing to create without refrain. I believe as a teacher it is my job to nurture that free spirit in every young actor." Her favorite aspect of teaching is seeing the looks on the faces of her students when they realize they've accomplished something they never thought they could or have mastered something they've been working hard to understand.
Drama School Instructor, Kody C. Jones
FYT Resident Artist, Kody C. Jones, is inspired by his Drama School students' determination to learn. Through creative exploration and artistic focus he challenges his students to explore new ideas and thoughts about themselves and the world around them. Kody enjoys harnessing their drive to help his students grow in their abilities.
