InterACT

Flint Youth Theatre InterACT provide engaging hands-on activities for K-12 students and teachers. By working with an experienced theatre educator from FYT’s resident company, you will experience how theatre can be used as a dynamic tool to improve comprehension and retention and also increase students’ self-expression, self-discipline and self-worth. The InterACT programs appeal to a variety of learning styles and addresses the Michigan Content Standards and Benchmarks. Whether you are interested in finding ways to deepen your students’ understanding of curriculum, increase collaboration and cooperation, go “behind the scenes” of a working theatre or experience first-hand other ways theatre can develop students’ cognitive, social, emotional and physical abilities, the InterACT programs has an offering suited to you.

Behind the Scenes

For Students 3 years-grade 12

Ever wonder what goes on “Behind the Scenes” to make a theatre production happen? Learn about theatre production and careers in the performing arts as your group goes behind the scenes of a working theatre with an FYT artist as your guide. See where actors warm-up, scenery is built and costumes are sewn. Learn theatre vocabulary and identify how school subjects like math, science and history are used in theatre careers. Students complete their backstage experience with group drama activities demonstrating how cooperation and imagination are essential skills for creating a theatrical production.

Creative Curriculum

For Students in grades K-12

Whether your class is learning mathematics, literature, social studies, science or wants to strengthen teamwork, respect, communication, concentration and creative problem-solving tactics, our tailor-made theatre classes can help. Working with an FYT theatre educator, your class can learn how theatre serves as a dynamic tool for exploring these areas. An FYT theatre educator will guide students in using theatre to develop cooperation, concentration, literacy, critical thinking, problem solving, physical awareness and control, verbal expression and focus as students increase self-confidence and willingness to demonstrate their knowledge of content. Whether it is for an hour, a day, a week, a month or a whole school year, this program can be designed to fit your needs.

The Acting Realm

Working with an FYT theatre educator, students will create characters, environments and adventures through theatre games, exercises and activities. Students will develop skills of physical awareness and control, verbal expression, concentration and problem-solving abilities while having fun in small and large group improvisation activities. Participate in The Acting Realm for an hour, a day, a month or even the whole school year.

Show Fusion

For Students in grades K-12

Are you and your students coming to see an FYT LEARNING THROUGH THEATRE SERIES production? Then why not fuse the experience of a show together with an exhilarating one-hour “Show Fusion” workshop? Each workshop is led by an FYT theatre educator and is uniquely created for your group. The workshop connects to the themes, characters and style of the production in a stimulating and action-packed way there by extending the learning process. With warm-ups, improvisations and group discussion, each workshop will reach deeper into your students’ imaginations as they get a glimpse of the theatrical experience.
