The Flint Youth Threatre staff is made up of a talented diverse community of artists and educators .....



William P. Ward

Executive Artistic Director

As Artistic Director, Bill writes, directs and designs productions in the SIGNATURE SERIES.  He holds an MFA in Stage Direction from Wayne State University's Hilberry Theatre and has been with FYT since 1979.

Laura Kinney

General Manager

Laura is a native of Flint, a graduate of Bentley High School and a long-time supporter of FYT. She worked as the General Manager for City Transfer, a transportation company, for seven years and at Lowe’s Home Improvement for three years. Laura brings an extensive background in management and customer service to FYT. She has four children (two are FYT alumna) and two grandchildren (one attends FYT Drama School classes). She enjoys reading and spending time with her family.

Stephanie A.B. Ramirez

Marketing Manager

Stephanie holds a BS in Arts Management with minors in Marketing and Theatre Arts from Eastern Michigan University. She is a lifetime Thespian and an FYT alumna. Stephanie is excited to have the opportunity to promote FYT, an organization that played a very vital part in her growth as an individual and theatre lover.

Andrea M. Anthony

Resident Artist

Andrea is a graduate of the University of Michigan- Flint with a BFA in Theatre Performance and a Minor in Communications.  Andrea has been involved with theatre for the past twelve years, including shows with Flint City Theatre (ROMEO AND JULIET and SHRINK RESISTANT), U of M–Flint (SUBURBIA, PICASSO AT THE LAPIN AGILE, MOTHER COURAGE AND HER CHILDREN and THE WINTER'S TALE) and Swartz Creek Center Stage (ONCE UPON A MATTRESS and OKLAHOMA!).  She is thrilled to be a part of the FYT family and first appeared on our stage in CREEPERS (2008).  Her favorite quote is by Peter Brook, "Drama is exposure; it is confrontation; it is contradiction and it leads to analysis, construction, recognition and eventually to an awakening of understanding."

Gregory J. Travis

Facility Rental Technician

Prior to joining the staff at Flint Youth Theatre, Greg feels fortunate to have participated in set construction for Pritchard Theatrical Productions at Cornwell Dinner Theatre in Marshall, MI and Prather Productions at Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre in Lancaster, PA.  For twelve years, Greg also plied his artistic talents as a journeyman pictorial artist for Gannett Outdoor Advertising in Flint.  Greg enjoys landscape painting, fish and golf.

 
Jean McDaniel

Resident Artist

Jean has been a resident of Davison all of her life. An active member of the community, she drove school bus for Davison Community Schools for 33 years, is active in her church and participates in many community events and fairs. Jean’s love of sewing and quilting began as a hobby when she would make clothes for her four children. Now she enjoys making quilts and clothing for her three grandchildren as well as applying her skills creating a wide variety of costumes for FYT productions.

 
Bary Lehr

Junior Resident Artist

Bary is a 2004 graduate of Flint Central High School. He enjoys acting and has been a cast and crew member in many FYT shows. Bary has performed in TUCK EVERLASTING, ARTHUR, KING OF BRITAIN and THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK, among others, and was on the technical staff for A CHRISTMAS CAROL and SEARCHING FOR DAVID'S HEART.

Renee Smith

Administrative Assistant

Having worked for Standard Federal and Flagstar Banks as well as The New McCree Theatre (another Flint area theatre), Renee brings a wealth of administrative experience to FYT.  She graduated from Flint Central High School and attended Lansing Community College.  Renee enjoys reading from her collection of old books, writing, exercising and spending time with her family.

Walter Hill

Associate Artistic Director

Walter is a director, teacher and actor who has worked with FYT since 1983. After attending Northern Michigan University and graduate school at Wayne State University's Hilberry Theatre, Walter worked for many Detroit area theatres, including the Attic Theatre, Fourth Street Playhouse, Oakland University's Center for the Arts and The Theatre Company at the University of Detroit Mercy. Prior to joining the FYT staff full time in January 2002, Walter served as Director of Performing Arts Programming for the Flint Cultural Center's Showcase Series at Whiting Auditorium for three seasons.

Samuel J. Richardson

Education Manager

Sam, who holds an MFA in Drama/Theatre for the Young from Eastern Michigan University and a BS in Theatre Arts from Less-McRae College, has been the Education Manager at Flint Youth Theatre since June 2006.  Before coming to FYT he worked at Round House Theatre (MD), Ann Arbor Young Actors Guild, Concordia University – Ann Arbor and Eastern Michigan University.  In addition to overseeing FYT Drama School, he teaches/coordinates the InterACT program, creates educator’s guides for the LEARNING THROUGH THEATRE SERIES, teaches/coordinates classes for The Pierce Cultural Center School and has been known to perform in the OFF THE PRESS SERIES from time to time.  While at FYT Sam has also been in IN THE COMPANY OF PIRATES, lent his voice to the dragon in THE HOBBIT and directed the all student cast of STORY THEATRE.

Margaret A. Mead-Finizio

Associate Artist

Margaret has choreographed, assistant directed and taught classes for FYT since 1992. Recent choreographic credits include VISIONS OF SUGAR PLUMS, MIDDLE PASSAGE, THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK and ARTHUR, KING OF BRITAIN. Margaret received her BFA from Florida State University and her MFA from the University of Iowa. For nine years, while on the faculty of The Flint School of Performing Arts, she taught all levels of ballet, modern and creative movement. After leaving her position as the Director of the Department of Dance at the Bethel College Academy of Performing Arts in Newton, Kansas, she is currently the Director of Operations and a dance instructor at the Florida Arts and Dance Company in Stuart, Florida.

Deirdre S. Baker

Resident Artist

Deirdre has worked with Flint Youth Theatre since 2002.  She holds a BS in Communication from Michigan State University and a BA in Theatre Performance from the University of Michigan-Flint.  Deirdre began her work with FYT as a Drama School instructor.  Her debut performance at FYT was in ALIEN SOIL and her most recent appearances include Mae Tuck in TUCK EVERLASTING and the Hoopoe in THE CONFERENCE OF THE BIRDS.  Deirdre has worked with several theatrical outreach and educational performance programs for children offered through Sloan Museum’s living history programs.  She is an active public speaker, mostly in youth-related environments.  She has also held speaking engagements for outreach seminars and conferences for middle school through college students across the country with Monster’s Diversity Leadership Program.  Deirdre is a proud mom whose 16-year-old son has taken drama classes at FYT and performed with her in MIDDLE PASSAGE and VISIONS OF SUGAR PLUMS.  Deirdre’s most valued possessions at FYT are the experiences, the hugs, the family and the lives she affects on and off the stage.

Kody C. Jones

Resident Artist

Kody C. Jones is a recent graduate of the University of Michigan-Flint and holds a BA in Theatre with a Performance emphasis.  He also has a wide background in education and has taught many classes and workshops in Speech and Theatre in the Mid-Michigan Area.  He is very excited to begin working with Flint Youth Theatre and all of the wonderful programs it has to offer the Flint area.  Kody has directed and/or performed with University of Michigan-Flint, Saginaw Valley State University, Pit and Balcony, Clio Cast and Crew, Cass River Players and Flint City Theatre and won an award for directing at the American College Theatre Festival in Milwaukee, WI.   Favorite Theatre experiences include BROADWAY TODAY, HENRY V and DOG SEES GOD:  CONFESSIONS OF A TEENAGE BLOCKHEAD.

Jordan Robert Climie

Junior Resident Artist

While performing in all of FYT’s 2009-2010 Signature Series productions, Jordan is also pursuing a BA in Theatre Performance at the University of Michigan-Flint.  He has appeared on FYT’s stage in numerous productions with his first, YOURS TRULY, JACK THE RIPPER, in 2007.  Jordan has directed and/or performed with Flint City Theatre, Buckham Alley Theatre and the University of Michigan-Flint Department of Theatre, where he received an Irene Ryan Award Nomination for his performance in POMPEY.  He credits his mom, Sue, and his mentor, Janet Haley, for their support of his pursuits in acting and directing.  Jordan enjoys baseball, running, swimming and “dissecting” films.

Marwan Prince

Marketing Assistant

As Marketing Assistant, Marwan promotes FYT productions, some of which he also performs in as an Apprentice. Working in both the administrative and production areas of FYT, Marwan is gaining the experience needed to advance in his goal of working in theatre as a full-time profession. His first FYT production was ROBIN HOOD (The Somewhat True Tale) in 2005 and he has continued his work with FYT in ALL HALLOWS EVE, ARTHUR, KING OF BRITAIN and CREEPERS. Marwan has also performed with Flint City, Buckham Alley Theatre and Sloan*Longway’s Midnight and the Promised Land.

Karl Gardner

Custodian

Originally from Flint, Karl worked at General Motors for thirty-two years, then as a substitute custodian for Lakeville Schools.  He now keeps FYT sparkling and spotless.  Karl earned a Master Gardener certification from Michigan State University in 1988 and continues to pursue his passion for gardening.  He also enjoys running in the Crim every year.  He and his wife, Rhonda, have been married for twenty-eight years and have a son and daughter.
